Hidden gem on Western, we've been by here dozens of times. But today we decided to stop in and give it a try. Boy we're we surprised by the cute decor and great music selection. The service from Greg was great. Although all of my food wasn't served hot. I'll still come back.

Update: We visited M'Dears just after New Year's. Our young adults said the pancakes were mediocre and tasted odd to them. I tried some of the pancakes, and I thought they tasted good. I ordered Reggie's Vegetables, which turned out to be quite bland. Most of the vegetables, like peppers, onions, and broccoli, were raw. The home-style potatoes were the highlight of the meal. The only thing that made it better was the eggs--both over easy and scrambled--that our children shared with me since they don't eat them. We suspected our waiter was new because we had to ask a couple of times before we finally received our warm water. This time, we paid the bill after the meal, which was different from our experience on Mother's Day in 2024. For our Mother's Day celebration at M'Dears in Los Angeles, the atmosphere was very neighborhood-friendly, and you could tell they support many local businesses. A good number of people came out to celebrate the occasion. The value and portion sizes were well-balanced. They served some delicious drinks, especially one called the New Orleans Hurricane. The French toast, chicken sausage, and hotcakes were all tasty. I also tried salmon croquettes and fried snapper, but both were dry and lacked rich flavor. Overall, we enjoyed the food and were fully satisfied, so we decided to return to M'Dears in the future. The menu is extensive, and there are plenty of sweet options, like banana pudding.

Food always excellent & the ladies are aLLL awesome. They be packed tho & food, getting seated can take a while. I usually order to go but occasionally I eat in house. I'm the grammar police & have told them MULTIPLE times for over a year...about their signage at each table about paying before your food comes (which in & of itself is atrocious but I guess they've had some issues). It's whether NOT wheather

This place was amazing! We ended up here after our first destination just didn't have it together. It was a great call because this place is extremely good. I got the catfish meal with scrambled eggs, grits and I paid the extra $6 to upgrade to two sweet potato pancakes. The fish was crispy and fresh and delicious. The grits were tasty. The sweet potato pancakes alone were worth coming back for. Delicious, savory, just incredible. Best of all, I felt like it was not that expensive too. My friend got a $7 breakfast sandwich that she loved. We also got a bottle of champagne and made mimosas. I'm definitely coming back to try the shrimp grits, the oxtail, the fried chicken etc. Highly recommend!

I heard about M'Dears but had never visited, until today. Nice bistro tucked in a small but comfortable venue on Western. Plenty of street parking. There are about 6 or 7 booths plus a couple of stools on the counter. We grabbed lunch and dined in. Service was prompt and waitress was very friendly, although things got busy but she was doing a good job in managing the customers who also were dining in. Our meal was well prepared. Beans and rice, very good and tasty. Muffin - excellent. Mac and Cheese, very good and I liked that the macaroni wasn't overcooked. They serve wine/beer and margaritas so while the venue is tight they offer a very diverse menu, at reasonable prices.

If you love hearty homemade soul food that tastes like your mom or grandma's cooking this is the place to eat at. They have a decent amount of food choices to select from. They also have health option alternates if desired. I ordered the chicken sausage and eggs with grits, it was so flavorful, tender, and delicious. I usually get their fried chicken, pork chops, or fried catfish but today I tried something different. The food is always cooked fresh to order and is very hot. I love everything at this restaurant so it's hard to decide at times :). The service is great. Everyone is welcoming and helpful. The decor is cute and trendy with modernized furniture. indoor seating is located in the front of the restaurant and the rear of the restaurant. Parking is located on the street. Note: -They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. -They have brunch on Saturday and Sunday. -If you have a big party of 20 or more you need to call and have them hold a table for you. -Great place for regular dining or to have brunch or bday parties. -They serve Alcohol, margaritas, bellini's mimosa, wine, beer, etc.
